Tell me what you think.
I do know I like the icon – I blended a picture of 3d6 with T-Bone’s crosshairs image that he used for a post responding to my Shoot/No-shoot commentary. I was going to use the GURPS logo, but I didn’t want to (a) give the impression that I don’t like my favorite system, or (b) infringe in any way on SJG’s trademark. The dice is better.
I don’t love the font. I’m open to other suggestions.
Edit: Trying again. I recreated a MILDOT reticle and superimposed it over the same dice. Playing with the Stencil font. We’ll see.
To try and rationalize what I’m doing with this blog, I’m tossing out some ideas.
Monday Morning: Pathfinder Skull and Shackles or GURPS Space Actual Play Report
Wednesday Morning: GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Actual Play report.
Thursday: GURPS Content or other rules-centric stuff
Friday Evening: Read-through reports. I’ve got Pathfinder, FATE Core, and some GURPSy stuff I want to do.
Apropos of Nothing: Random stuff that will either be filler if I’m caught nekkid on the above or actual things that connect entertainment in other media with RPGs.
Not sure if this will hold up, but it seems a good division of time. The play report stuff may be actual transcripts (like the last few Pathfinder games), or jump straight to rules issues that came up in play. We shall see.
Edit: Yesterday was my Best Day Ever according to Google. Yay for page views.
For a while I had my posts scheduled for a 1am release on any given day. I tend to write ahead by 2-4 days when I can, so that I can put something out there every day or two.
On the 18th, I experimented with posting at 6-8am . . . and had something like 100 views in about an hour!
For the bloggers out there: what’s the right posting frequency? Every day? Every other day?
What time to post gets you the most interest?
What kind of posts make people flock to your site? Rules nuggets? Play reports? Reviews?
I’d think that having one solid post every few days would ensure that so much doesn’t happen that people miss things . . . but Google Analytics tells me that, perhaps unsurprisingly, my “best day” since GA started tracking was January 10, with over 100 unique visitors that day. I posted three times: Forthcoming part 2, Serve up the Fun, and Travel in Gaming part 2.
Over the next few days/weeks, I’ll be reading through the Pathfinder rules cover-to-cover and making comments. This serves two purposes – a very long series of blog entries, which since I like to post something fresh every day or so, is nice to have a go-to source for something to write. Also, I’ll be comparing it to GURPS a lot, since that is, and given my experience with Pathfinder thus far, will remain my system of choice.
Still, it will also help me learn Pathfinder, and since I play in +Jeromy French ‘s game, that can’t hurt.
Pathfinder Core Rulebook
3a. Classes (Barbarian – Monk)
3b. Classes (Paladin – Wizard)
- Musings on Computer-Aided Gaming, likely thinking about a prospective GURPS Fifth Edition with that in mind.
- More on Dissecting Damage. GURPS uses armor divisors, basic damage, and injury modifiers. Why all three?
For now, I have a Pyramid article to finish . . .
FYI, this space will change without warning for a while, until I figure this stuff out. I’ll likely be stealing shamelessly from Dungeon Fantastic, ’cause it’s awesome.
