Well, well, well…Isn’t THIS interesting?
The following video appeared on the Steve Jackson Games TikTok account
Question from SJGames
(unsurprisingly, link goes to TikTok)
Just setting a side the core question, though that’s more than enough to make one sit up and take notice, just thought I’d throw out a bit of shameless self-promo.
As one of the only third-party publishers writing for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG on my own hook, and a fan who’s been playing the game since 1989, I wanted to note that for some of the current comments to the video, Gaming Ballistic has a few answers.
All of the products have preview files that can be found on Gaming Ballistic’s online store.
Make Character Generation Easier
For, this, SJGames and GB have the same answer:
This 40-page book supports the Dungeon Fantasy RPG boxed set, which contains all you need to run most excellent kill things and take their stuff adventurers right out of the box, as it were. The goal of Delvers to Grow was to make character generation for the DFRPG as fast and easy as old-school B/X D&D or SJGames’ own The Fantasy Trip. In practice, someone entirely new to RPGing can make a character in 30 minutes thanks to intuitively named modules that benefit from the system expertise of the author. Those with experience (and maybe a little help from GURPS Character Assistant or GURPS Character Sheet) can do it in 5-10 minutes. One of my Patreon supporters even ran a walk-up game at his local game store with it. Walk-up game. Using GURPS. Let that sink in.
The Dungeon Fantasy RPG answers the question of “can I do [this thing]?” with “Yes, and you’ll probably be awesome doing it!” Delvers to Grow extends the scope of starting characters to lower point values … as low as 62 points, roughly 1/4 of the usual starting total supported in the DFRPG core rules … for those that want the zero-to-hero feel.
More Prepared Adventures
You want it, you got it!
Hall of Judgment is a straight-forward “go do the quest” adventure, and was the first published adventure for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG. 128 pages long and full color, it set the tone for things to come.
Citadel at Nordvorn is Gaming Ballistic’s recommended entry into the Norse-inspired setting of Norðlond, and it features a web of factions, a major city, two towns, and several example villages, plus the ability to create more. The Crypt of Krysuvik is the companion to Delvers to Grow, in that it’s an adventure targeted at 125-250 points.
Forest’s End and The Dragons of Rosgarth are aimed at adventurers even more experienced than the 250-point standard.
All have sufficient open hooks to allow them to be fit into ongoing campaigns as adventures in a far-away land, or to file off the Norse-ish serial numbers.
A Bestiary Already!
I hear you! The availability of a setting to anchor the monsters gave rise to a critter compendium tied to that world. And if that doesn’t work for you, use the stat blocks anyway!
The Nordlondr Ovinabokin, the Nordlond Bestiary and Enemies Book, is 192-pages of monsters, encounter advice, more monsters, and extras to make delvers lives entirely too interesting. Produced at the same time were quick-reference cards and a Foundry VTT module, allowing easy drag-and-drop of stats and abilities in to the most excellent GURPS Game Aid (Unofficial) by Nick, Neck, and Nose.
Is There More?
Yes!
Three new bestiaries are going to hit the store in a few hours.
There’s also expansions for variant clerics, new ancestries, and more on the way! Plus support for The Fantasy Trip as well as That Other Game which we’ve been hearing so much about these past few weeks.
Check it out!
