GURPSDay Summary Aug 4 – Aug 10, 2017

Thursday is GURPSDay! I’ve actually got a dedicated GURPSDay post today, but also, I did a lot of musing on shields this week. One of those got picked up by a prominent HEMA instructor, and went big. Well, big for me. But there’s a lot on making shields more interesting. Still: it’s GURPSDay, so let’s get started.

Welcome to the second year of GURPSDay, and here’s the pull for this week.

We’re currently drawing content from 89 blogs. Only 11 more to go until we’re pulling from 100! But we’ll need your help.

How? Two action items: post more, recruit more. It’s really that simple. More posters is more posts, and more interest in GURPS.

Below you can find the blog activity for the last week. There’s a whole lotta awesome GURPS going on. Read all the posts.

Not every blog posts about GURPS every week, but some are ridiculously prolific! The list is randomized, so different bloggers will be highlighted at the top of the post each week.

As always, if you’re interested in having your blog consolidated here, navigate over to The Instructions Page and drop me a line. Take special note of the RSS Settings Fix if you’re on WordPress.

  • GURPSDay Summary Aug 4 – Aug 10, 2017 (8/10/17)
  • Martial Arts Techniques – Focused Training (8/10/17) – Techniques are a nifty way of providing limited differentiation or expertise to a martial artist (and some non-combat professions too, but today we’ll focus on beating folks up). The pricing schemes have drawn some flak, but this article presents a point-neutral way of using techniques to drive differentiation by trading one for another with a net-zero point cost.
  • The Chronicles of Ceteri: Ep9 – Ghoul Recon (8/08/17) – Ceteri Campaign, Season 0, Ep 9. We settle in after the latest time skip (about two years) as young adults about to get out on our own. We are concerned that a recent heat wave is either not natural, or being taken advantage of. We’re proven right, and discover that in all probability Boston’s homeless are being menaced by a pack of ghouls. We do recon and lay plans to fight them.
  • Ceteri B-Team Moment of Awesome (8/08/17)
  • Aggressive Shield Use in GURPS (8/04/17) – After a few other more general posts on shield use, I muse on a very optional and completely untested way to represent setting a defensive line with the shield by modeling it as an attack. I borrow from Setup Attacks, Deceptive Attacks, and kinda-sorta Technical Grappling, but don’t really address how it will interact with the rest of the offensive/defensive options in GURPS.

  • Sundered Lands 37 (8/10/17) – The party patches up some wounds, fall for some traps and loot the treasure room! Gold! Gold! Gold is found! The newest adventures in the Sundered Lands of Palladium, our GURPS: Palladium Fantasy campaign.
  • Grand Duchy 107 (8/09/17) – The Grey Company recovers from their battle with the Mummy Lord. They find a way to recover Kifein from her earthy tomb and deal with a cursed ring. Summary of the latest play session of The Grand Duchy of Adventure, our GURPS: Mystara campaign.

Dungeon Fantastic (Peter Dell’Orto)

Testsujin no Llama (Matt Riggsby)

Olympus RPG Group (The Olympus RPG Group)

  • GURPS: Traveller, “The New Deal” Session 3.09 (8/10/17) – Continuing our ongoing GURPS: Traveller campaign. A team of special forces absolute badasses hit the dig site on Corfu on a mission to extract Lorain Messandi but no plan survives contact with the enemy…
