Ballistic’s Report – May 5, 2023

Last two weeks have been work-work-work. Finishing up the Best Supporting Actors materials and editing two manuscripts for two other games. Plus a bit of dabbling with the Shadowdark RPG.

  • Best Supporting Actors saw a near-final release of both book and cards. Backers have at least something for all items they could have chosen.
  • I am likely to put the finishing touches on all of the materials for BSA this weekend, which should allow procurement of books and cards starting next week.
  • We’re at 88% and no card errors on the surveys, and Backerkit helped me with a shipping thing for my Aussie contingent.
  • I’ve completed two editing passes on the TFT manuscript (The Scorpion Labyrinth) and David is hard at work on the other two. I’m ready to start looking at maps and art.
  • I was maybe half done with Artifacts of Norðlond, but MS Word seems to have eaten all the considerable work I did yesterday despite repeatedly saving it. So…guess I have to do all that again. Not happy.

Gaming Ballistic Patreon

To help with ongoing funding of art and speed eventual time to delivery, Gaming Ballistic started a Patreon in January 2021. Here’s the weekly update on Patreon status.

  • Membership status: 59 patrons and $435 per month.
  • Special Content in March: OSE Kickstarter Preview; Early look at GB 2022 Year in Review, preview of new spells for OSE; full BSA preview.

Currently Manufacturing/Fulfilling/Shipping

Projects where hardcopies and PDFs are going out or scheduled to do so.

  • The OSE Solos and Nightmare Fuel campaigns are both closed.

Crowdfunding and Product Launches

  • The Best Supporting Actors: Adversaries and Allies project launched on March 7 and closed April 8. It raised over $19K.
    • The new cover is complete by Billy.
    • Cards were spooled twice, with some error fixes
    • Anticipate final file versions by May 7, with hardcopy orders early next week

Product Announcements

The full Product Catalog is accurate as of Sept 3, 2022 but needs a refresh for new product and a Spring 2023 update. Look for that and dissemination of my new PbG products to all sales channels.

The Nightmare Fuel books and the VTT Module are now available in all intended formats on my shopify store!

In Development

Writing and content creation for announced projects. Some of this may be cryptic.

Let’s see where we are on other things…

  • Artifacts of Norðlond. I have a manuscript in hand and accepted. It’s in editing.
  • “Gwalathar” TFT Setting by David Pulver. First book in hand, and David is using “writing the adventures” to flesh out the setting book. My next big task for next week is to get a structure for the TFT Kickstarter in place and approved so we can get a landing page and start promoting it.
  • Infinite Archipelago is happening. I have the first plan here with the TFT books David is making right now, and big plans for late summer or early fall for bringing Nordlond into the OSE and TFT as part of this line. Heck, I think I even have a logo for it.
  • Delvers to Grow Companion. Some new professions. A whole bunch of new disad packages. Epic Upgrades. Everyman Adventurer modules. Who knows what else will strike me? I know what I want to do with this one. I’m hoping for this one in July 2023.
  • Mission X: The contract has been fully executed and I’m very pleased with the terms.
  • Let Us Rejoice! Looking at my planned releases and the work required, this is either 2024 or “as time permits” in 2023…and I hope it’s a non-crowdfund release in 2023 and time does
  • Inns and Taverns; Two Warring Houses, by Douglas Cole. Systemless. 2024 is likely, and I’m probably going to solicit new authors on both.

I actively encourage prospective authors to drop me proposals having to do with any of the above projects, but bear in mind that there are guidelines and strictures that must be followed to make a sale and move from concept to final.

Friction

Bits of news and items that put a monkey in the wrench.

  • Rotator cuff is still bad. MRI scheduled Monday.
  • Keeping a weather eye on the next few projects to see if I need to find something else to do.
  • MS Word keeps eating my edits on Artifacts of Nordlond. This probably cost me a full day.

Information about things that move GB forward.

  1. Greg Christopher seems to be leading the way regarding Shadowdark supporting products; I know nothing of what might be in preparation, but expanded versions of the carousing and spell misfire tables ought to be welcome. One thing that you and co-workers could do much better than most would be a solo dungeon crawl, with entries visited being the “torches go out” counter. An interesting map with some loops, a couple of levels, and multiple means of entry/exit could work well.
