Ballistic’s Report – April 21, 2023
The last update was before the BSA Kickstarter ended, which of course it did. Since then, it’s been head-down getting the PDF ready, plus some work on new manuscripts for the next two projects.
- Best Supporting Actors came and went, and finished below my expectations for an OSE project. It closed just shy of $20K and got 372 backers in the end.
- Conversion of followers to backers was also poor; in fact the lowest showing ever, at 16%.
- Even so, work continues and the book has its first full complete layout as of yesterday. Today and tomorrow are proofreading with a side-order of getting the Backerkit surveys ready to go.
- So I expect sometime next week to have the surveys ready and smoke test: that is, PDFs next week.
- In other news, I have two shiny new manuscripts in my edit queue, one for TFT and the other for Nordlond/DFRPG. I need to re-read the TFT one, but I’ve already verbally accepted the DFRPG entry. They’re both really fun.
- The Mission X contract has been fully executed!
Gaming Ballistic Patreon
To help with ongoing funding of art and speed eventual time to delivery, Gaming Ballistic started a Patreon in January 2021. Here’s the weekly update on Patreon status.
- Membership status: 59 patrons and $440 per month.
- Special Content in March: OSE Kickstarter Preview; Early look at GB 2022 Year in Review, preview of new spells for OSE; full BSA preview.
Currently Manufacturing/Fulfilling/Shipping
Projects where hardcopies and PDFs are going out or scheduled to do so.
- The OSE Solos and Nightmare Fuel campaigns are both closed.
Crowdfunding and Product Launches
- The Best Supporting Actors: Adversaries and Allies project launched on March 7 and closed April 8.
- It funded at $19,431 which hit the custom cover but not the offset print stretch goal.
- The new cover is in WIP. It features a bunch of characters from the book who need to pay better attention to what’s coming out of the ancient ruin.
- While it didn’t meet my hopes, it probably meets my needs to provide a pool of resources to make the next few games happen, but not too much else. Alas.
Product Announcements
The full Product Catalog is accurate as of Sept 3, 2022 but needs a refresh for new product and a Spring 2023 update. Look for that and dissemination of my new PbG products to all sales channels.
The Nightmare Fuel books and the VTT Module are now available in all intended formats on my shopify store!
In Development
Writing and content creation for announced projects. Some of this may be cryptic.
Let’s see where we are on other things…
- Artifacts of Norðlond. I have a manuscript in hand and accepted. It’s in editing.
- “Gwalathar” TFT Setting by David Pulver. The solo books David wrote for me have an implied setting and there are a minimum of three books – likely more – planned and in writing at this time that blow out that setting as the first example of the Infinite Archipelago concept. I’ll be working on a landing page for this soon, but the first GM’d adventure is in hand, and I expect a setting book and a solo adventure to follow. This is the first of hopefully many future entries for the Infinite Archipelago.
- Infinite Archipelago is happening. I have the first plan here with the TFT books David is making right now, and big plans for late summer or early fall for bringing Nordlond into the OSE and TFT as part of this line. Heck, I think I even have a logo for it.
- Delvers to Grow Companion. Some new professions. A whole bunch of new disad packages. Epic Upgrades. Everyman Adventurer modules. Who knows what else will strike me? I know what I want to do with this one. I’m hoping for this one in July 2023.
- Mission X: The contract has been fully executed and I’m very pleased with the terms.
- Let Us Rejoice! Looking at my planned releases and the work required, this is either 2024 or “as time permits” in 2023…and I hope it’s a non-crowdfund release in 2023 and time does
- Inns and Taverns; Two Warring Houses, by Douglas Cole. Systemless. 2024 is likely, and I’m probably going to solicit new authors on both.
I actively encourage prospective authors to drop me proposals having to do with any of the above projects, but bear in mind that there are guidelines and strictures that must be followed to make a sale and move from concept to final.
Friction
Bits of news and items that put a monkey in the wrench.
- Rotator cuff is bad. Doctor’s appointment next week. Ow.
- Still concerned about the sustainability of my business model. I have to start pulling back to 500-700 per project to even have a shot at keeping GB as sustainable.
- I’m a bit behind – maybe a few days – on where I’d like to be on BSA. But “days” is not “weeks” or “months,” and we should be moving into final stages over the weekend.
- Felltower last weekend was cancelled as Real Life interfered. Alas.
Fair Winds
Information about things that move GB forward.
- We got away for a vacation to Wisconsin Dells. It was excellent. We slept a lot and played in the pools a lot.
- Coming to the end of BSA and two manuscripts that will need only mild editing in hand. That’s excellent staging.
- The Mission X contract is fully executed, which means that work can REALLY begin. This is hopefully a big deal.
- Maybe Felltower this coming weekend, maybe not.
